Valpo Americans Baseball Opening Day Field Dedication Press Release

Updated Thursday April 19, 2018 by Tom LaGard.

A local youth baseball program, Valpo Americans Baseball, has been working hard to breathe fresh air into their 2018 season. Over 400 players, aged 4 to 18, call this league home.  Armed with new and eager board members, the league is preparing for their best season to date.  A new and modern Viking logo and fan voted complex name – Victory Fields – are just the beginning of the excitement happening on the field.

This Saturday April 21st, the league will host an official Opening Day Ceremony and Field Dedication for families and friends of Valpo Americans.  There will be food trucks, craft vendors, and of course an honorary opening pitch.  The Junior league field will be rededicated to Bob Malackowski, one of the original Valpo American founders and a volunteer of the organization for over 40 years.  The Minor league field will be dedicated to the late Tim Bishop.  Tim played for Valpo Americans Baseball in his little league days.  He is considered one of Valparaiso’s greatest athletes, an all-Star in football, basketball, and baseball. Eventually Tim was drafted by the New York Mets, but tragically passed in a motor accident in 1997. His memory and love of baseball will continue to live on through this dedication at the Valpo Americans Baseball field.

Join us on Saturday at Victory Fields, home of Vikings Baseball, 3603 Oakgrove Drive.
