TRAVEL: The 9U travel ball team will play in several competitive tournaments in Northwest Indiana and outside of the region. At the end of the season (July) they will also compete in the 9U Cal Ripken District Tournament. If the team finishes in the top, they will move on and continue to play. These tournament dates are set by Cal Ripkin.
SEASON: Pre-season indoor practices (January – March/April), outdoor practices/traveling for tournaments (April – July) and post season (July).
TIME COMMITMENT: One practice a week will be held at an indoor facility from January through March/April. Beginning in March/April, two practices a week will be held until tournaments begin. The 9U travel ball team will enter into 8-10 tournaments April – July. One weekend a month will be baseball free to allow for family time. On tournament weekends, players should be available to participate on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Players will NOT be allowed to play regular season baseball in the minors league at Valparaiso Americans.
COST: The 9U travel ball team will cost approximately $800-$900 per player; a portion pays for the registration fee into Valparaiso Americans which covers insurance, Cal Ripkin affiliation and practice time at the VA fields, and the remainder will pay for tournament registration fees, uniforms, bat bags, helmets and indoor practice facility rental. The 9U travel team does intend to conduct fundraisers and/or obtain sponsorships to offset some of the cost. Due to not knowing how much money will be collected from fundraisers/sponsorships, it is unknown what the final cost per player will be.
**Additional family expenses may include hotel stays for tournaments outside of the region.
